Legally restricted herbs

19 Dec 2012

The Chinese Medicine Board has produced an updated list of legally restricted herbs.

In 2006, the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Victoria conducted a project to develop a list of Chinese herbs that are captured by the schedules in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons, and thus are restricted or prohibited. The list is not exhaustive and a number of more uncommon herbs may be affected by the SUSMP.

The National Board has now updated and republished this list for the assistance of Chinese herbal medicine practitioners and dispensers. The list is available on the Codes and Guidelines page.

To ensure accuracy, however, practitioners are advised to occasionally review the most up-to-date version of the SUSMP, which is available on the Therapeutic Goods Administration website.
