New campaign helps Australians understand what to expect from Chinese medicine practitioners

19 May 2025

The Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (the Board) has launched a national public information campaign to help Australians better understand Chinese medicine and what to expect when visiting a registered practitioner.

The campaign aims to increase public awareness of the safety, regulation, and standards that underpin Chinese medicine practice in Australia. It also introduces a new dedicated page on the CMBA website, offering clear, accessible information for patients and the public.

‘Chinese medicine is a well-regulated profession in Australia,” said Board Chair, Adjunct Professor Danforn Lim. ‘This campaign is about empowering the public with knowledge—what Chinese medicine is, what happens during an appointment, and how their safety is protected.’

The campaign highlights:

  • What to expect during a visit to a Chinese medicine practitioner, including what a health record is, treatment plans, and infection prevention.
  • The role of the Board in setting and enforcing safety standards.
  • How to check if a practitioner is registered and how to raise concerns if needed.

Short videos and social media content will be rolled out across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and the Board’s website, with targeted outreach to educational institutions and professional associations.

‘We want the public to feel confident and informed when choosing Chinese medicine as part of their healthcare,’ Adjunct Prof Lim said. ’And we want them to know they are supported if they ever need to speak up.’
